March 7th, 2002
Congratulations to all the teams that
qualified to play in the Championship games. On
Wednesday night the 3rd-4th grade girls, 5th-6th grade
girls and 5-6th grade boys competed in their respective
divisions for the chance to be champs of their
particular divisions. Tonight the 3rd-4th grade boys
competed in their championship game. All the games were
close and came right down to the end. The players played
hard till the end and the coaches coached hard till the
end.
3rd-4th Grade
Girls
We started Wednesday evening at 6:30 pm
with the 3rd-4th grade girls championship. Team 3402
played team 3403 in a game that was very low scoring and
close down to the wire. Both coaches did a great job and
all the players played their hearts out but team 3402
finally prevailed, 16 to 9 with Kelly Brown scoring 12
of the 16 points. Dani Parkhurst and #10 (her name
wasn't on the sheet) also scored for team 3402.
Taylor Dunlap was high scorer for team
3403 with 6 points. Gabbie Lout and Rachael also scored
for team 3403.
5th-6th Grade
Girls
The 7:30 game featured the 5th-6th grade
girls division Championship game. Team 5604, coached by
Gary Darling, and team 5605, coached by Clarence Jacobs.
There was not much scoring in this game and what scoring
there was came in streaks. The lead went back and forth
most of the game. Team 5605, the Lady Ballers, finally won 20 to 16 with Lakeisha
Colter scoring two big layups in the last minute of the
game to ice it for The Lady Ballers. Colter
scored 18 of the Lady Ballers 20 points. Rachel Allen
added the other 2 points for the Lady Ballers.
Alyssa Rosselli was high score for The Chilli Peppers
with 7 points. Alyssa Lout, Catter Jones, Trameice
Hebert, Jill Gavlick and Elizabeth Brack also scored for
the Chilli Peppers.
5th-6th Grade
Boys
The 8:30 game was for the Championship
of the 5th-6th grade division. All the playoff games in
this division were very close and almost any of the
teams could have made it to this championship game. But
only team 607, coached by Alan Money, and team 606
coached by Jim Denton actually made it. This was a very
good match up with many of the players and coaches from
other teams were in attendance. They came expecting to
watch a good game and they were not disappointed.
Team 607 finally won the game 44 to 29
but the game was close up till the very end. Coach
Denton's team struggled at the beginning of the game.
Denton's team fell behind 19 to 6 at the end of the
first half. Coach Denton's talk at half time must have
helped because team 606 cut team 607's lead to 7 points,
30 to 23, at the end of the 3rd period. But Nick
Witheril was to much for team 606, scoring a game high
21 points. William Bond and Kyle Hoffman had 6 points
each , Robert Carol added 5. David Money and Ethan Dye
also scored for team 607. Alex Zener was high score for
team 606 with 11 points and Andrew Bryant had 9 points.
Michael Schmitt and Andrew Krchmery also scored.
3rd-4th Grade
Boys
The championship game in this division
was not expected to be a high scoring game. After all
these are 3rd and 4th graders playing on 10 foot hoops.
But fool us they did because there were a total of 88
points scored in this game.
This game featured team 403, the Blue
Devils coached by Paul Sieczkowski, against team 408,
the Sky Hawks coached by Lionel Hollins (Lionel couldn't
make it so his son filled in for him). Both of these
teams were well coached and it showed in the way the
both played. The final score was team 403 46, team 408
42.
The lead changed several times during
the game and either team could have won. Both teams had
some scorers tonight. The Blue Devils, team 403, were
led by Justin Sieczkowski and Kyle noon with with
19 points each. The Blue Devils Casey Sagger and Austin
Phillippe also scored.
The Sky Hawks were led by Austin Hollins
with 19 points and David Whitmore added 12. Peter Kelly,
Marcus Plunkett, Eric Flores, Nick Galvin, and Jordan
Mitchell also scored for the Sky Hawks.
