Features for 3rd Grade and Up
|
About This Program Jam always tries to find innovative ways to develop basketball players. We created a bit of a dilemma when we allowed zone defense in the Jam league. Each zone is unique and requires unique ways to beat it. A 1-3-1 defense can cause a team to get beat by a lopsided score, even though the players from each team match up well. Put the team in the proper offensive set and 1-3-1 defense may not be very effective. Our goal with this summer program is to focus on teaching the players how these defenses work and how to beat them offensively. The program will teach four types of defensive and offensive sets: Man offense and defense, 2-3 zone, 1-3-1 zone, and 1-2-2 zone and the offensive sets necessary to attack them. A motion offense may work well against a man defense, but it is totally useless against a zone defense. A zone offense won't necessarily work against a man defense. This camp will teach an effective offensive set to play against each the mentioned defenses and at the same time help the players recognize the defense. In the Fall season we will teach these the same sets to the coaches. This camp, along with training for the coaches in the fall and winter, should be extremely helpful to the player. It will be another step in making sure Jam players learn all aspects of the game. |

Program for Kindergarten - Second
|
About Kindergarten - Second Grade The players will have a two hour session each week. For players to be successful at this age, several skills are extremely important:
Several of the most important skills young players need to develop, aside from dribbling, is triple threat and pivot. Without these skills it is difficult for these players to pass and protect the ball from steals. One of the most important game skills this age group needs to develop is not chasing after the ball, but going to a particular position. This camp will address all these skills. |
